Silent Running release taster for new album ahead of gig in Voodoo, Belfast

‘Faith Healer’ is a love song, but a different love song about how during life’s difficult times the love and support of another, their faith in you can heal you. It is also about love’s journey and its longevity and how it will far outlast the difficult times.

“Like pennies thrown into a fountain, this love will shine and never fade”.

Silent Running were one of Ireland’s biggest musical exports in the 1980s releasing 3 albums and a host of singles before folding after the third album. In this time they headlined numerous nights at London’s legendary Marquee club and toured extensively across Europe and the USA with some of the biggest names in the music business including Simple Minds, Robert Palmer, Talk Talk and Stevie Van Zandt. Now back after a 30 year break.

In 2019, having got together again to play a few songs at a band member’s wife’s birthday, Silent Running booked a gig at Belfast’s Voodoo. Expectations of anything other than having some fun playing a full live set again, in truth, were low. However, a Facebook group of fans couldn’t believe that the band were back in business again and ensured that the show was a total sell out, with many traveling in for what was a magical night. A live concert CD of the show was released in 2020.

Late in 2019, Silent Running released the single ‘Lost Boy’ which in turn led to the writing and recording the band’s first studio album in nearly 30 years. ‘Lost Boy’ was followed by the single ‘Live Right Now’ in December 2020.

The album ‘Follow the Light’ released in April 2022. Two singles were released from ‘Follow the Light’; ‘Beyond Your Wildest Dreams’ in February 2022 and ‘Darkest Hour’ (in aid of the Red Cross Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal) in April 2022.

In August 2022 Silent Running were asked to support Simple Minds when the band played to a massive crowd in Custom House Square, Belfast. The response was overwhelmingly positive and the band is now in the process of writing and recording a follow-up to ‘Follow the Light’.

The single ‘Walking Wounded’ was released on Friday February 3rd, 2023. New single ‘Faith Healer’; a taster from the band’s forthcoming new album will be released on Friday September 1st on Bandcamp and all other platforms (including Spotify) on Friday, September 8th.

Silent Running will be live in Voodoo, Belfast on Friday October 6th with special guests Shock Treatment.

The gig is in support of Northern Ireland Pancreatic Cancer Charity NIPANC and representatives of the charity will be present to raise awareness of the disease and funding for research.
